What is Hemispheres Time?
If you’ve been talking to someone involved in Hemispheres Academy—a student, parent, or teacher—you’ve probably heard their excitement around “Hemispheres Time”.
It is a flexible, personalized learning environment that connects globally mobile students across hemispheres in real time. It allows students to make connections, discuss similarities and differences across cultures and form friendships with those having similar globally mobile lifestyles.
Students are grouped in similar age groups and time zones around the world with Teacher Coaches who are certified teachers and EFMs to engage students in a variety of lessons integrating movement, art, music, and American culture lessons
Units of study enable students to engage and interact while discussing historical events, current events, and topics of their own interest.
Break out time allows students to interact and connect with students for discussions and learning activities.
The focus is on American culture including black history, hispanic heritage, women’s history, and other student-suggested topics.
Students at Hemispheres Academy do their core courses and electives through the Edmentum / Calvert Learning portal. Engaging, standards-based classes are accessible 24 hours a day with videos, recorded classes, and information sheets to help with learning. Students can work remotely and at their own pace through the content.
Hemispheres Time is led by certified educators connected with the Foreign Service. Our teacher coaches understand the expat lifestyle as they are also posted abroad or to the U.S. Students meet with cohorts banded by time zone and age group four times a week. These classes allow students to connect while learning about U.S. holidays, U.S. history and civics, art, music, movement, and much more.
Latitude and Longitude time is for students to meet individually with their teacher coach to set goals, review progress, and ask questions. Students will be supported through their core courses and electives with extra help and encouragement as needed. Teacher coaches will check in regularly to make sure students are thriving in their classes.
While each student is assigned a Teacher Coach, any of our team can step in to provide extra help or support as needed.
So what is Hemispheres Time? It’s one of the things we do differently, just for the benefit of the global student.
Students who have special needs can move faster or slower through the curriculum as needed. There is a modified curriculum available for those who have an individualized learning plan. Students can use the text to speech feature if necessary. For more information, please contact us.
