Together Through Books: Moving to a new school? Read about it!

Here are three great books for students facing a move to a new school, each tailored to a different age group:

  • Elementary School: Goodbye, Friend! Hello, Friend! by Cori Doerrfeld – This beautifully illustrated picture book helps young children understand that every goodbye comes with the possibility of a new hello, offering comfort and reassurance during transitions.

  • Middle School: New Kid by Jerry Craft – This graphic novel follows Jordan Banks, a middle schooler navigating life at a new, predominantly white private school while staying true to himself. It’s a relatable and uplifting story about fitting in and finding friends in a new environment.

  • High School: Far from the Tree by Robin Benway – This YA novel explores themes of identity, family, and belonging as three biological siblings meet for the first time and navigate their personal journeys. It’s a great read for teens dealing with change and finding their place in a new setting.
